Hi, I’m Nate Apel, a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC).
I specialize in working with children, youth, adults, families, and couples and look forward to helping you and those in your care
achieve a greater sense of calm and wellbeing.
Counseling Approach
As a therapist specializing in family life education and counseling, I employ a wide range of therapeutic approaches to meet the age-specific needs of my clients. When working with children, I use child-therapy methods like sand tray work.
This helps to provide a comfortable and engaging experience based on the child’s developmental stage and the nature of the distress they may be experiencing.
When working with older youth, adults, and couples, I use methods such as solution-focused counseling and motivational interviewing coupled with personality assessments to help individuals explore how they see themselves, others, and the world around them.
I also use a broad range of trauma-informed care and cognitive behavioral therapy to help those I serve achieve their wellbeing goals and objectives.
As a Christ-follower, I value the opportunity to serve people of all walks of life and faith while also respecting their personal cultural and faith traditions whatever they may be.
Education & Experience
I completed my master’s degree in counseling and my bachelor’s degree in family life education from Spring Arbor University. I love helping clients of all ages find ways to greater wellbeing. Throughout my fifteen years of experience working with youth, families, and adults in schools, churches, and counseling practices, I have come to appreciate the importance of listening, building relationships, and supporting those I serve with an approach that best meets their specific needs.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family traveling and camping. I also love working with my hands and practicing Kintsugi, the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold. Not unlike our own journeys, the flaws in the pottery reflect important and unique parts of our history that, when properly addressed, create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art.
